My widget stopped working today. Only DJI was updating. The rest of my list was grayed-out even though the "last update" time stamp was current. Found out why. "CIT" was next on my list and it was recently renamed, therefore "CIT" no longer exists. That was enough to "hang" the widget and prevent it from updating the rest of my list! It apparently updates in the order from top down. Once I deleted "CIT", my list was updating again and is no longer grayed-out.
Unlike most of finance-related widgets presented here, this one is quite visually aesthetic. But I still just can't manage to add an ^FTSE ticker. My search returns "too many results" even if I write "^FTSE - FTSE 100 (FTSE International)". Do you guys have any ideas on how to trick this thing into work?
It's interesting, by the way, what Yahoo software testers are paid for. In the Yahoo Stock Ticker - kind of old version of this widget - you can't get ^DJI shown.
In short, get the Widget Converter. Convert Yahoo Finance to a flat file. You'll find the flat file in, as I recall, a Yahoo Finance folder in the Widget folder. Rename it to .txt. Scan for v2. Change it to v3 . I found three instances although others have reported just two. Rename the flat file back. Convert the flat file back using the Widget Converter. Restart the Finance Widget.
This worked for me.
If you check some of the older reviews, yo…u'll find a couple of detailed descriptions of the fix.
The problem and the fix have been reported to Yahoo using the "Reprot this Widget" function. They responded with a thankyou. Unfortunately, this was done at least two weeks ago and they still haven't fixed it.More
