TimeTracker

by Carl

You enter the name of the task you are working on and press the button. Press the button again when you have finished working on the task.

The Widget updates a daily XML or CSV file. The file stores a list of the tasks you've worked on, and how long you worked on each one for. You can import the timesheet files into an application like Excel, or write your own script to convert the files into another format.

The information stored in the timesheet files are: task name, length in milliseconds, length in minutes, start time, stop time.

You can also predefine your own task names in the preferences so you don't have to type the task name in every time. These appear in the context menu of the text area (on windows, right click when the text cursor appears). You set the task name by selecting one of the predefined tasks.

I created this Widget because I am notoriously bad at doing timesheets and I find most time tracking applications too complicated for my purposes.

A A, change the save folder in preference.

I like that I can open it as csv
so that I can compute how much time I spend on things in the end of the day
rather than just tell the time of the last task. I think there's not much point in that.

I am almost embarrassed to ask but how the heck do you reliably start and stop the timer. I have tried numerous combinations of steps but can't seem to figure it out. As near as I can tell, the green orb to the left of the widget does nothing. Clicking the green box on the right seems to start it but I am nto sure it stops it. Any tips?

I wish it could tell me how minutes are passed since I started this task without closing it and going to csv file.

This is a good improvement that could be done to this widget by author.
