Monitor Off

by Abelardo Suriga

Monitor Off puts your monitor on standby with a click. A simple move of the mouse or keyboard press will wake up the computer in a few seconds.

Click on the icon to put your monitor to sleep. Hold down CTRL key to move the Widget around.

A typical 17" CRT monitor consumes 80 watts electricity; putting it on on standby reduces it to about 0-15 watts. Setting computer monitors to Power Save Mode saves money, electricity and reduces carbon dioxide emissions. After all, money isn't all you're saving.

I give it 4 stars. It's a wonderful program. It works with CRT, LCD, LCDHD monitors, Standard Connection, and Digital Connection. I like the hotkey function, but would like the option of a timer like Franck suggested for people who have a rechargable mouse and cradle, and just like to click and go.

This is great, I think it needs two more features to be axactly what Im after.
    1. A scheduler, so that you can set a time to turn monitors off, I have an application that I want to turn the monitors off at 9:00 pm every night as it is being used as a digital photo frame.
    2. A selectable timer that after you click on the monitor it will count down before turning off.
Other than that this is a great tool
    thanks for sharing.

It's nice, but it doesn't work unless I extract the entire thing from the .widget file. I get the message: "Could not open Widget C:Documents and SettingsTimMy DocumentsMy WidgetsMonitor_Off.widget. It either isn't a Widget or you don't have access to that file. (StartWidgetProcess: Unable to locate .kon file)"

Only 2 stars, because I thing you need to implement two more point to get it perfect!

1/ I think it's important to be able to choose how many time the widget will wait before switching off the screen when you're clicking on the widget (for exemple, I have toput back in his dock my mouse, and the widget doesn't leave me any seconds to do it...)

2/ I think it would be great to be able to choose the keyboard shortcut.
