Mail Candy

by Curtis Clifton

Small, discreet, and oh so sweet!

This is a simple in-box monitoring Widget that works with Mac OS X Mail. The candy shows gray when there are no unread messages. The candy changes color (and optionally pulsates) when new messages arrive.

To move the Widget, hold down the command key while dragging.

Click the Mail icon inside the Widget to bring the Mail application to the front. Move the mouse over the candy to see a tool-tip showing the number of unread messages. Use the preferences More

Charles: Strange, no one else has reported these problems. Thanks for leaving your email address. I'll contact you to see if I can figure out what's wrong.

Mouse over doesn't show tips and it won't run unless I launch the mail app.

Gabriella... I wanted color coding for different folders, too. So, I just copied the Widget and gave it a slightly different name.

Now I have two small Mail Candy widgets on my desktop and each has a specific color for new mail. Thus, I can tell when what type of new mail I have!

Thanks Curtis for the frequent updates, and great job on making the best mail widget out there!

Thanks Curt! I used "deleted messages" instead of trash, and "outbox" instead of out (i caught on to the fact that it is reading the filenames of the mail folders instead of the assigned names in Mail) and now it is perfect. The only thing that could possibly make it better is color coding for new mail in different folders, but really its already the best widget i've used so far. Thanks so much!

Quinn, the memory used by Mail Candy while running should be quite small. I've managed to reduce the disk space used by the widget from around 330KB to 225KB in the upcoming version 1.6.2. The reason the widget takes that much disk space is the number of color options provided.
