Japan Railway Station Melodies

Forget phone ringtones. Japan Railway (JR) stations play different amusing melodies, to give passengers warning for when the train doors are about to close. This Widget will play some of these cute synthesized jingles from stops around Japan. Now use it to condition the behavior of your co-workers, so they know when you are about to kick them out of your office.

As I reluctantly edited tones from this widget, I tried to pick a sample of the best jingles regardless of location. In many cases, these turned out to be from obscure stations of the JR line. Therefore, for some melodies I did simplify the location name, giving credit to a larger and more recognizable station in the same general area.

Oh wow....this is hot. Just curious, though--are these new or old? I lived in Tokyo for nearly 4 years and moved to Kyoto last year, but I dont recognize some of the jingles...does anyone know what line that Shinjuku jingle is from? I dont think its JR...also, the Yamanote line one sounds different from what I remember, too....

I live in Osaka, and I'm crossing my fingers for the Keihan or Hankyu lines. Any plans for this in the future? That said, what a fantastic,natsukashii little widget.
